Project Based Training (PBT)
Assessment Time Frame: Minimum of twelve (12) weeks.
Objectives: To provide on & off the job training for participants who face serious difficulties securing and maintaining employment.
Eligible Employers:
Aboriginal Bands/Tribal Councils;
Not-for-profit employers; (less than 100 employees)
* Aboriginal & non-aboriginal companies (sole proprietors, partnerships);
* Aboriginal & non-aboriginal corporations without share capital;
* Churches and religious organizations;
* Community groups, charitable and voluntary organizations;
* Associations of workers and employers, professional and industrial organizations;
* Boards of Trade and Chambers of Commerce;
* Ad hoc groups;
* Public health and public educational institutions;
* Municipal governments;
For-profit employers; (less than 100 employees)
* Aboriginal companies & non-aboriginal (sole proprietors, partnerships);
* Aboriginal & non-aboriginal corporations with share capital;
* Self-employed aboriginal persons;
* Federal corporations;
* Provincial corporations;
* Cooperatives;
* Private health and private education institutions.
ALL BUSINESSES/ORGANIZATIONS MUST BE IN EXISTENCE FOR A PERIOD OF 1 YEAR OR MORE
Eligible Participants: - Designed for 5 or more participants;
- Must be aboriginal;
- Must be working age;
- Must be long-term unemployed (3 months or more).
- No longer required by law to attend school;
- PBT is designed for participants at risk of facing long term or recurring unemployment.
- Participants who would like to learn new techniques for seeking and finding a job, those who want upgrade education levels or learn new work skills.

- Both classroom instruction and on the job training are combined.
Duration: Negotiable up to 16 weeks with a 4 to 6 week practicum.
Eligible Costs: the following are eligible costs, subject to negotiation:
- Project Manager wage;
- Overhead costs;
- Training costs;
- Special costs are negotiable for participants with disabilities.
- Training Allowance:
- Participants collecting Employment Insurance (EI), stay on EI
- Participants not on EI benefits can receive a Training Allowance
- Participants on Social Assistance (SA), continue to collect SA
Approval and Application Process: Approval Process:- Program Officer reviews proposal content and poses assessment questions to sponsor.
- Projects under $50,000 are reviewed and approved internally.
- Projects $50,000 and over are reviewed internally and then approved by FVHARD Steering Committee who meet on a quarterly basis.
Application Process: * It takes a minimum of twelve (12) weeks to assess a proposal, depending on complexity and Program Officer workload.
* The following documents are required:
- Cover letter;
- Completed and signed original PBT application;
- Band Council Resolution (BCR) or board motion decision sheet;
- Job titles and detailed job descriptions for Project Manager and participants
- Detailed training plan (include dates, time frames, number of hours, activities, and objectives);
- Course outlines and location for any off-site training;
- Copy of instructors/trainers resumes.
- Specify or outline Sponsor/Partner contributions.
